DAWLISH’S Marina Bowling Club held their annual presentation evening on November 11, at the Langstone Cliff Hotel, with 41 members attending.
The Langstone provided an excellent meal, after which, the proceedings got underway. Members and their guests celebrated an outstanding season with the men having been promoted to the Premier League in the MDL next season and equally proud are the ladies SDLA and SDLB teams, both winning promotion to the second and fourth divisions respectively for next season. The awards were presented by President Rick Purnell.
For the ladies, Tina Rowe won the Singles Championship, Sue Owen the 3-Wood, Hazel Joyce the 2-Wood, Georgie Nown the Handicap and then Wendy Way & Sue Owen the Pairs.
Meanwhile, Mark Baker won the men’s Singles Championship, Dave Blandford the 2-Wood, Andrew Moore the Handicap and Rob Barr & Rick Purnell the Pairs.
The aforementioned Georgie and Mark combined to claim the Mixed Pairs, with Rob also winning the Novice Shield and the team of Debbie Coyles, Tom Neville and Fred Baker the Triples.
Marina men and women came out on top in the annual local derby against the Lawn for the Whitelegg Cup, whilst the Seagar Cup takes place within the club. Marina’s annual men v ladies event was won by the men for the 27th year in a row. It’s always a challenge for the ladies as the membership is 2/3rd men and 1/3rd ladies.
Fun was had by all on the evening with Competition Secretary Darryl Strong providing music for every winner, most notably the Postman Pat theme tune. The club are also very grateful for Fraser and Wheeler’s sponsorship.
The ladies picked up their prizes at the SDL presentation in Newton Abbot on October 25 also and now everyone at the club looks forward to stepping out on the green again in the spring. There is much to look forward to!
