FIREFIGHTERS from Newton Abbot were called into action over the weekend as a car fire temporarily closed a section of the A380.

Crew from Station 28 were joined by their colleagues from Torquay on Sunday, February 2, after having received reports of a vehicle on fire on a slip road of the A380.

The engine compartment was 100 percent damaged by fire, however the remainder of the vehicle was not affected.

The northbound carriageway of the South Devon Expressway was closed for a time, before reopening at around 3pm.

The cause is believed to be accidental, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said.
