POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a serious road accident.
Officers were called to reports of a collision in Torquay involving a red Vauxhall Astra and a building on Teignmouth Road, Torquay at around 9.55pm on Sunday.
A police spokesman said: ‘We are investigating a serious road traffic collision in Torquay at the weekend and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.’
Police, paramedics, firefighters and Devon Air Ambulance all attended the scene.
A 45-year-old local man sustained life-changing injuries, and was taken to Derriford Hospital, Plymouth.
The road was closed whilst a forensic examination took place.
Officers from the Roads Policing Team want to thank the public for their patience.
The police spokesman said: ‘A 32-year-old man from Torquay was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
‘He remains in custody.
‘A second person, who is thought to have left the scene of the collision, is being sought in relation to this incident.
