NEWTON Abbot Batmen returned to action in the SD&T Table Tennis League first division with an 8-2 win at Halwell A, Rory Harries with a maximum for the Batmen.

In the second division, a Mark Sharratt maximum for Dawlish Aces helped them to a 6-4 victory over NA Falcons. Both Mark Smith and Rod Sugden were unbeaten for Halwell B as they defeated NA Raptors 7-3. Brixham Pirates, with a maximum from Issy Brown, beat Torbay Academy 2, 7-3.

With the top third division match between Torre Vikings and NA Kestrels being postponed, the chasing pack narrowed the gap at the top. Torbay Academy 3, in action twice this week, firstly beating NA Kites 8-2 with the help of an Andy Harris maximum but then losing out 8-2 to their club-mates Torbay Academy 4. Matt Laws and Ionel Ichim both picking up maximums for the Academy 4 team.

Both Steve Cooper and Peter Chadwick were unbeaten as Dawlish Renegades defeated NA Harriers 9-1. Brixham Gulls were also 9-1 winners as they defeated Torbay Academy 5, thanks to maximums from Nick Williamson and Kevin Ayling.

Torre Spartans stretched their lead at the top of the fourth division to 13 points following their whitewash victory over Brixham Seals, Robert Excell, Elliott Glasser and Dylan Sadler rarely troubled as they eased to a comfortable win.

Another Ken Ramsden maximum helped NA Ospreys to a 7-3 victory over NA Vultures which sees them move up into the runners-up spot.

NA Merlins picked up a share of the points at Torbay Academy 6 despite a fine maximum from the Academy’s Aleksandra Treder. Both Aaron Southgate and Phil Jewell were unbeaten as Torbay Academy 7 defeated Totnes’ Grove Tigers 9-1.

The Taverners, struggling at the foot of the second division, have reached the quarter-final of the handicap doubles cup with an excellent 18-14 win over Brixham Trawlers.
