IT WAS a scheduled cup week in the South Devon and Torbay Table Tennis League, but with several cup matches unable to take place, there were only a handful of matches played this week.

The two handicap doubles matches that survived were both Newton Abbot TTC v Dawlish TTC.

NA Harriers’ team of Dale Fabian, Ivor Copley and Doug Morgan were always in front against the Dawlish Delinquents but did not seal the victory until the final set, eventually winning 21-15.

NA Kites found themselves struggling 13-7 down after set five against Dawlish Aces but fought back into the contest to level at 16-16 going into the last set. Father and son pairing, Nick & James Kitchen won the final set 4-0 to give the Kites a 20-16 victory.

NA Ravens, catching up with their league fixtures in Division Two, played twice in the week. Firstly they had a close encounter with Halwell B just ending up as victors thanks to an excellent maximum from Steve Hugh. Their second match was a very one-sided affair as the Ravens’ team of Ollie Malin, Mike Dummett and Mitch Nash whitewashed the Taverners.

They close in on runaway leaders Grove Guerrillas thanks to collecting 16 points here, cutting the lead to seven.

The only other fixture was a first-division match between Halwell A and NA Owls. A fine maximum from Jim McIvor helped the Owls come from behind to share the points.
