Dawlish Marina Bowling Club has a new men’s captain, Marc Baker.

Marc is the youngest Marina Captain the club has ever had. He has been playing bowls since he was 7 years old and is keen to encourage more young people to take up bowls as a hobby.

He is also currently the men’s club champion and has also represented the county.

Of course the men’s MDL A team are now in the Premier League so they will be looking to do well this season. Under Marc’s guidance they are looking to undertake lots of practice sessions as a team.

Last season Andrew Moore and Marc Baker reached the final in the County men’s pairs. Andrew also represented the County at under 18s and under 25s. He won the Teignmouth tournament championship last summer, played at the National under 18s/25s finals and is a valued member of the Marina A team.

Marina Bowling Club is looking to expand its demographic and encourage younger people to come along and try their hand at bowls - age, experience and ability are no barrier.

A spokesperson for the Dawlish Marina Bowling Club said: “Come along and see how enjoyable and social bowls can be. We need more young players to join the club. Anyone can turn up to try bowls on Thursday social evenings, just wear flat trainers.”

Established in 1940 as a Ladies club, Marina Bowling Club became a mixed club the following year. Currently there are over 90 members and new members are always welcome.

The club has a high quality green of six rinks and its greenkeepers have been steadily improving the green over recent years. It is now at a standard that enables the club to host county matches.
