A GIANT 18m whale will be washing up in Dawlish this weekend.

The whale is expected to be the big attraction at this year’s Turn The Tide festival.

Billed as a show-stopping centrepiece for the three day event highlighting coastal and inland waterways and threats from pollution and climate change, the whale will be centre stage on the Lawn.

Visitors will be able to step inside its belly, hear seafaring tales of pirates, mermaids and treasure.

A turtle will swim inside telling tales of plastic in the oceans.

Organisers said it the installation is ‘educational and enlightening’.

The festival, which opens on Friday June 7, has been running for several years and aims to bring attention to climate change and the environment while providing family entertainment.

The three days will feature a host of attractions, live music, storytelling, creative arts and theatre.

Joining in will be organisations including Devon Wildlife Trust, Climate Action Teignbridge, Environment Agency, Recycle Devon and Teignmouth RNLI.

Mossy carpet artwork will be available to get involved with, inspired by moss and made by many people, created from thousands of individually made pom poms and textiles on fleecy felt from Dartmoor.

Throughout the festival there will be live music from a host of entertainers including the Backbench Boyz, Cask, Melosa and Gas and Sasha and on Saturday the headliners will be Piratitude and Jonah’s Lift.
