A DRIVER was rescued from an overturned car in Dawlish by passers by. 

The accident happened on Sunday afternoon on the A379 on Teignmouth Hill near Westcliff Drive. 

Onlookers reported the car had flipped and was on its roof.

One witness described how her husband had helped an injured man out of the wreckage as smoke was coming from the vehicle. 

A spokesman confirmed police were called at 1.15pm on Sunday following reports of a road traffic collision at Teignmouth Hill, Dawlish. 

The spokesman said: ‘It was reported a car was on its roof.

‘The ambulance service was also called and a driver taken to hospital. 

‘His injuries aren’t believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

‘The road reopened at 3.48pm.’

The driver’s daughter thanked those who stopped to help. 

She said: ‘It was my dad in the accident. It has been such a shock but pleased to say he will be OK. 

‘We are so thankful no one else was involved.’
