A TEIGNBRIDGE village is hoping to increase its parking provision with the development of several new spaces.

The application, submitted by Hugo Davies Architect on behalf of Broadhempston Parish Council, is seeking permission for nine car parking spaces in the village.

25/00631/FUL aims to create a row of parallel parking with nine spaces, increasing the number of spaces in the centre of the village by five - from four in the square to nine in the new site.

The site is located beside the access road to the village hall; it is adjacent to an existing car park that serves residents.

June 18 is the target date for a decision on the application.

The proposals also include two electric vehicle charging spaces.

The proposed surface material will be hardcore, providing a permeable surface.

An option was considered for honeycomb plastic grid with soil infill, allowing grass to grow, but the prohibitive cost was too great, the Mid-Devon Advertiser understands.

The parish council intends to reduce parking on the village square so that it can be made into a flexible community space, the design and access statement for 25/00631/FUL says.

It is intended for the are to be used by surrounding businesses, organisations and the public at large.

The design and access statement concludes by saying that: ‘The project aims to aid the use of Broadhempston’s community facilities by increasing the parking provision.

‘In moving the current parking in the village square to this new location, the quality of the village square amenity space will also be improved.

‘The client [Broadhempston Parish Council] is mindful of the ecological impacts the project will have on the site’s biodiversity, and will address this by planting new native trees and hedging.’
