MORE than 50 people danced the night away at the first Over 60s disco in Dawlish.
Held at the Strand Centre, the first of event gave pensioners the chance to boogie to tunes from through the decades from the 1940s to the 1990s.
The new Night Club for the Over 60s is following the national trend for providing opportunities for dance and entertainment for the older generations.
The Dawlish event is being held once a month.
The brainchild of former police officer and ex-town councillor Carole Tamlyn, the new ‘night club’ runs from 6.30 to 8.30pm.
Carole said: ‘Having worked with the town council on project to tackle loneliness, I thought there was a way to provide an opportunity for socialising, exercising and singing and promote well being.
‘The timing means we can be open to lots of people over 60, including people who work.
‘It is meant to be fun and a way to reminisce and enjoy a few hours of music.’
The first event was a big success and the next disco is due to take place at the Strand Centre on April 2.
