POLICE are appealing to the residents of Denbury and surrounding areas of HMP Channings Wood to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.

Newton Abbot Police made the appeal on their Facebook page.

They said: ‘The area surrounding the prison shown in red below is a ‘no fly zone’ meaning it’s against the law to fly a drone, some drones that have been modified can be flown several thousand metres using a controller.

‘Criminals will use drones to transport illicit items including drugs and mobile phones into the prison which can have a significant impact once inside.

‘If you see or hear a drone flying near the prison please call 999.

‘Suspicious activity can be incidents, events, individuals or circumstances that seem unusual or out of place, common examples include: a stranger loitering in your neighbourhood or a vehicle cruising the streets repeatedly.’
