REPORTS of a lorry fire near Dawlish turned out to be a broken down vehicle, police have confirmed.

Devon and Cornwall Police were called to reports of a what was suspected to be a lorry fire on the northbound carriageway of the A380 at Ashcombe, Dawlish, at around 8.05am today, Thursday, March 20.

However, upon arrival it was found to be a broken-down van, which is due to be recovered, police have said.

The northbound carriageway of the A380 was left partially blocked, near the B3192, Ashcombe/Teignmouth turn-off.

Queues of cars stretched back for about two-and-a-half miles.
