SWIMMERS will be able to take the plunge into Teignmouth’s open air Lido on Saturday.
Following an £800,000 decarbonisation scheme, the popular 25 metre pool is now ready to welcome its first swimmers for several years.
The Eastcliff Walk pool, which first opened in 1976, has suffered various setbacks since the Covid pandemic but Teignbridge Council’s leisure staff have been working hard behind the scenes to get it ready.
From Saturday, families and swimmers will be able to enjoy the upgraded facilities.
As well as the heated pool, there are changing rooms with hot showers and toilets and lockers available.
General and fun swims will be available on a pay per use basis.
Teignbridge Leisure members can use the pool as part of their membership.
Non-members can pay per session or buy a day pass.
Delays and unforeseen problems meant the pool could not open last summer.
The work had been due to be completed in time for the school holidays last year but instability issues with the foundations of the solar pergola foundation and problems with material supply extended the construction time.
The £800,000 project was implemented to reduce the pool’s carbon footprint, cut running costs and make it financially and environmentally sustainable.
