FIREFIGHTERS from Newton Abbot were among the 28 station strong response to a thatched roof fire in Drewsteignton.

And the crew from Station 28 have released dramatic pictures of the incident, which saw myriad fire stations mobilised to the Dartmoor village just before 9pm on Monday, March 17.

Initially, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service mobilised eight fire engines along with several support units.

However, upon discovering the scale and complexity of the three cottage blaze, a further six fire engines joined the operation.

Both of Newton Abbot’s appliances were a part of the ‘make pumps 10’ incident.

The cause of the fire was accidental, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has said.

Crews remain at the scene, dampening down hotspots.
