CLOSE to £100,000 has been raised for a Newton Abbot farm hit by bird flu.

The Animal and Plant Health Agency culled all 5,000 of Orchard Organic Farm’s hens on Friday, February 21, following cases of avian flu being identified on the farm.

In the wake of the cull, a GoFundMe was set up.

Quickly gaining traction, the fundraiser has today, Wednesday, March 19, topped £93,000.

Of the fundraiser, farm owner Jerry Saunders said the money will ‘allow us to breathe’ and that it was the difference between ’ruin and survival’.
