HUNDREDS flocked to the streets of Newton Abbot last Saturday to join in the festive fun with the town’s Christmas light switch on.

During the day Courtenay Street was filled with street food stalls and there was entertainment for all throughout the town including balloon modelling, stilt-walking elves, the Taiko Drummers and live music from 3 Days of Wonder.

It was all a lead up to the main event itself - Father Christmas processing from The Avenue to the Clock Tower where he was ably assisted by Mayor Cllr David Corney-Walker in pulling the switch to herald the start of the festive season

It was great to see the town so busy and we hope everyone likes our beautiful Christmas illuminations,’ said Sally HenleyNewton Abbot  Town Development Manager.

‘It was rare to have such perfect weather for a switch on event and so we were thrilled when we realised that we were going to be able to deliver the music, the crafts, the markets, the entertainment and the parade without the need for a single umbrella!

‘We are particularly pleased with our new snow flake projection on Newton’s Place. Thank you so much to everyone who helped make the day such a success. ‘
