A GROUP of school friends from Dawlish have been putting their holidays to good use raising money for an arson-hit charity.

Kitty Dawson, daughter of the Mayor of Dawlish, and her friend Bethany Lemon-Davies, both aged 10, are behind a fund-raising stall which they have set up in the town centre to support Dawlish Community Transport.

With Nieve Fuller, also 10, her brother Ethan, eight, and assisted by two-year-old Megan Davies, they have put together a stall selling home made crafts such as bracelets, and a range of cup cakes and rice crispy cakes.

Within an hour of opening shop outside Co-op Funeralcare,  in Lawn Hill, they had raised £80.

Kitty and Bethany, who are both pupils at Gatehouse School, were keen to help Dawlish Community Transport which was left devastated when an arson attack destroyed much of its fleet of vehicles. 

Kitty and Bethany said: ‘We wanted to help as we both felt bad.’

They were both delighted with the donations and people who gave money without even taking a cake. 

The youngsters are hoping to continue their pop-up stall at other locations around the town during their summer holidays.

Paul Lentle, manager at the Strand Centre, has also offered them space.
