CHILDREN at Starcross Primary School have been brightening up their playground thanks to help from local art charities.
The youngsters took part in a project in collaboration with The Helen Foundation and DAISI aimed at making three, large colourful fence panels.
The idea was to brighten up the school’s small playground but to also make the space more private for the children and staff.
Caroline Radcliffe, teacher of Kittiwakes class at Starcross, contacted DAISI, a leading education arts charity, to ask for help with a plan to cover the large fence space.
DAISI grew the plan and got in touch with local artist Anna Bolon to help.
The children enjoyed the full experience creating the final panels; from deciding on a seaside theme, to drawing out their original designs, sourcing recycled materials, working with Anna, learning new skills and seeing their vision come to life once the panels were put up in their playground.
Tara Trail, headteacher, said: 'The children have worked so hard on this project and we are so grateful for The Helen Foundation and DAISI for their support. ‘Our pupils have loved seeing their ideas in the flesh and we look forward to more projects like this where all classes can work together to make something beautiful once again.’
The project was made possible with the support of Teignbridge-based The Helen Foundation and was financially backed by DAISI with additional funding provided by Starcross PTFA.
