Who will get your vote in the Moretonhampstead Ward of Teignbridge Council, where one candidate will be your next councillor?

Here's some information on each of the candidates:

RICHARD has owned the Ring of Bells in North Bovey since 2012 and has dealt with a major fire, the pandemic and the hike in energy bills. 

He has faced every challenge head on, determined to keep the pub going for the community and retain local jobs. 

He hopes to use his experience to support other local businesses and to champion Dartmoor as a tourist destination. Richard’s wife Ellie is a neurosurgeon at Derriford Hospital and lectures at Plymouth University. 

They share a passion for our NHS and Richard will do whatever he can to ensure Moretonhampstead Hospital continues to be utilised for outpatient services and our community nursing team. Richard enjoys playing cricket for Manaton and exploring Dartmoor with his two children.

JOHN Farrand-Rogers has lived in the centre of Moreton for sixteen years now.   He has served on the Parish Council here for a total of eight years, and came a good second as the Lib Dem candidate in the Ward in 2019. 

At one time, he was Leader of the Opposition to the 58 Conservative councillors on the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead, the only official opposition they had!  Yet he often managed to get the Council to take the right decisions!

Before retirement, he was an academic at one of the leading universities in Mexico, where he specialised in training lecturers in teaching, and in evaluating educational institutions.  

He believes strongly in Liberal values, and freedom for everybody to live their own lives, while respecting everybody else’s rights.  

His mother’s family was 100% Devonian.

I am proud to be Labour Party candidate for Moretonhampstead in the May 2023 Teignbridge local election. 

I joined the Labour Party over 50 years ago, elected to the South West Regional Executive at 18. 

I was trained at Centrax in Newton Abbot as a commercial apprentice. 

After a 20-year career in the Civil Service, in 2004 I became a Labour Councillor in Totnes, later elected as Deputy Mayor. (I have also been a parish councillor in Bovey Tracey.) 

I helped to lead the fight against the closure of Dartington College of Art, taking the issue to the High Court and speaking at the European Parliament. 

If elected to represent Moretonhampstead, I will bring experience, passion and commitment.
