LESS than a month remains before the launch of a brand new market in Newton Abbot.
Spearheaded by Kris Hanson of The Plot Deli, the food, drink and craft market launches in the town on Sunday, May 5.
The market will run on the first Sunday of every month thereafter.
‘We are full for the first weekend and we have a little bit of waiting list already, and there are more people applying every week, which is great!’ Kris said.
‘It’s exciting!’ he added.
The inaugural market will see more than 20 stalls along Courtenay Street, with an eclectic mix of hot and cold food, locally produced drinks and hand-crafted goods.
‘We are hoping to have some live music in future, and as we progress and see how it goes, I am hoping to have workshops up by the clocktower’ Kris said.
‘It should be really cool if it comes off!’ he added.
From cheese and jam producers to smoothie and alcohol makers, the market aims to highlight the very best of the South West.
‘Our focus is to shine a spotlight on our local producers, celebrating the diversity and quality of their products’ Kris said.
‘We aim to not only enhance the cultural richness of the town but also to inspire a resurgence of community spirit.
‘Our ideas are geared towards attracting visitors back into our towns, creating a vibrant, connected community that thrives on the uniqueness of what our local businesses have to offer’ he added.
Newton Abbot town development manager, Sally Henley, has been a major driving force in getting the market off the ground.
‘Sally has been really helpful - she’s been instrumental in making this happen’ Kris said.
‘It's great to have The Plot deli and cafe in Union Street in Newton Abbot’ Sally said.
‘Kris has always been an enthusiastic proponent of all things local and so I was so pleased when he said that he would also be interested in putting on a monthly Sunday market.
‘Don't forget that parking is much cheaper in TDC car parks on Sundays too!’ she added.
