NEXT week there’s a chance to gain an insight into how run a farm while mninising the impact on the environment.

Climate Emergency Bovey and Heathfield (CEBH) have organised a walk around Deer Park Farm this coming Tuesday, May 16, from 7pm-8.30pm.

Owners Audrey and John have farmed Deer Park Farm near Chudleigh for 23 years.

Audrey said: ‘The farm had lots of wildlife and species-rich pastures when we arrived, and our aim has been to maintain and increase the wildlife by farming it with cattle and sheep, and making at least a small profit.

‘This has just been possible with the Government/EU’s Basic Payment Scheme and Environmental Stewardship Schemes - but it may not be possible in the future!

‘Come and see the farm and find out more about the new grant schemes for farmers, and how they could help wildlife and our environment.

‘It won’t be a long walk, but the farm is steep and can be slippery when wet or very dry, bring a stick – even if you only occasionally use one!’

In the case they have to call the walk off if the weather is very wet you will be contacted. However, organiser Sue Simmons said: ‘We won’t let a bit of drizzle put us off – this is Devon after all!

‘If it isn’t raining, we will have a chat and refreshments in the garden after the walk.
