A DRIVER suffering a ‘medical episode’ led to police closing off Exeter Road, Dawlish, this morning, Tuesday.
The Mid-Devon Advertiser has received reports of police, two fire appliances and the Devon Air Ambulance landing near the Shutterton Industrial Estate.
A police spokesperson said: ‘The Ambulance service called on us to assist with road closures.
‘They are at Exeter Road on what currently appears to be a medical episode whilst a person was behind the wheel.
‘Emergency services are there and the ambulance service is leading on this.’
By 12.40pm police reported: ‘The man has gone to the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital via ambulance and vehicle to be collected in due course.’
The road is now open.
A spokesperson for the Devon and SomersetFire and Rescue Service said: ‘We were called to a RTC on Exeter Road at 11.20am, and sent two appliances, one from Dawlish and one from Teignmouth.
‘We gave first aid to a male motorist who was then conveyed to hospital via land ambulance. We made the vehicle safe and then helped to re-open the road.’
