A SITE of six traveller pitches has been granted permission in Liverton.

Members of Teignbridge Council’s planning committee approved the retrospective application for the site at Higher Ingsdon Quarry to retain the six existing caravan pitches.

Planning officer Gary Crawford told councillors the site is in open countryside and a 20 minute walk from Blackpool Primary School in Liverton.

It is not visible from a public road.

Currently all six pitches are occupied and as the district does not have its five year supply of traveller pitches, the application should be permitted.

Resident Jess Hodge, whose partner has lived at the site for many years, spoke on behalf of the residents.

She said: ‘There have been no objections to this site which must be a first.

‘People living here work in the local community and one resident has built a play park for the children, it’s a lovely little community.

‘Please save our family home.’

Councillors voted in favour.
