SHOPPERS are being encouraged to support an initiative for children in need at Christmas.

Tesco’s Kingsteignton store is organising a collection of new toys and donations will be given to the Salvation Army to be given to children who might otherwise go without.

Janette Parker, Tesco community champion, said: ‘This is the sixth year we have organised this Toy Appeal and we are always amazed how generous people are, when everyone finds it difficult to make ends meet, we’ve still ended up with lots of toys. It’s incredible.

‘The collection is for new toys, not second-hand.

‘All donations will go to local families.

‘With the help of customers, we want to ensure children have a present to open on Christmas Day.’

New toys can be donated in a specially designated trolley until December 10.
