THREE-way traffic lights are due to be put in place from today as a road in Newton Abbot is to close for gas works

Wales & West Utilities’ work to upgrade the gas pipes in Highweek Street was due to start today, Monday, March 3.

However, as of eight o’clock this morning, the road was as normal.

There were no signs of activity at midday either.

The initial phase from March 1 to April 4 will see a road closure on Highweek Street, as well as three-way traffic lights on the junction of the A382.

Wales and West say the work is ‘essential to keep the gas flowing safely and reliably to local homes and businesses, keeping people warm for generations to come.’

There will be a phased road closure along Highweek Road, with work planned on Coronation Road during May half term, until June.

This comes as drivers have dealt with the first week of a planned two week closure of the A382, Bovey Road.
