FIREFIGHTERS from both Chagford and Moretonhampstead assisted in tackling a combine harvester on fire yesterday (Saturday, April 13) at Drewsteignton.
Along with crews from Torrington , North Tawton, Danes Castle and Middlemoor they responded to the reports of an agricultural vehicle on fire in a field of standing crops just after 2pm.
A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and rescue Service said: ‘The blaze was tackled using beaters, hose reel jets and foam jets in a bid to extinguish the blaze.
‘By 5.40pm the fire had been extinguished and crews left the scene However, the combine harvester was burnt out by the fire and approximately ten acres of field and 100 metres of hedgerow were destroyed .’
The cause of the fire was accidental.
