MORE than 30 schools across Devon are expected to be hit as teachers walk out today, Thursday, as part of their national dispute over pay.

Schools in Teignbridge will be affected by the industrial action by members of the National Education Union with pickets expected outside schools in Newton Abbot and Teignmouth.

The NEU is continuing its campaign for a ‘fully-funded, above inflation’ pay rise after members in England and Wales voted in favour of strike action.

Pickets are expected to be protesting outside Teignmouth Community School and Coombeshead College in Newton Abbot.

On the County council’s website the following Teignbridge schools are listed as having partial closures:

Ide Primary School

Kingskerswell Church of England PrimarySchool

Chudleigh Church of England Community Primary School

Bradley Barton Primary School and Nursery Unit

Canada Hill Community Primary School

St Catherine’s CofE Primary School

St Michael’s Church of England Primary School, Kingsteignton.

Of the 34 schools affected, five schools in other parts of Devon are closed altogether.

Parents of children at Coombeshead College have been advised that the school is unable to open ‘fully’ today.

Bosses say the decision has been taken to ‘partially close’ to pupils in years 8, 9 and 10.

Any key workers or children who are vulnerable and supported by social services will still be entitled to a place in school.
