WITH Queen Street having closed for the latest phase of works, the Mid-Devon Advertiser took a stroll along the road.
The section of road between Albany Street and Courtenay Street has closed to allow for work to be carried out on the northern side of the road.
While the road remains open at its eastern end, traffic can travel as far as the Albany Street junction.
The closure is expected to be in place for two months, though this is not set in stone.
Johnsons Cleaners said its customers were frustrated with the work, with many voicing concerns about parking; the specialist cleaners said they are ‘holding their own’ but that ‘it was not perfect’.
Having seen less footfall in recent weeks, Queen Street Butchers, which is already closed on Mondays, is now closed on Tuesdays also.
Speaking to the Mid-Devon Advertiser, Nature’s Bounty said it is down by more than 30 per-cent; the Pharmacy Café has reported similar losses.
This comes as Newton Abbot’s newly elected Liberal Democrat MP, Martin Wrigley, has disrupted claims that the wider pedestrian enhancement scheme will kill off business.
