NEW video footage shows the extent of work which has now been carried out along Dawlish sea wall.

The December update by Neil Salter, Dawlish Beach Cams, marks a ‘milestone’ in the progress by Network Rail and its contactors BAM Nuttall.

It shows how the final stages of linking phases one and two of the sea wall are being put in place.

Neil’s access to the work follows the contractors as they pour concrete into the link bridge next to the viaduct.

This links the two areas of the walkway.

Up to 600 people turned out to watch progress of the concrete pour, Neil estimated.

The tour of the site also shows ducting being installed which will provide lighting in the area and there will be strip lighting through the underpass.

A 70 ton excavator is being used for the work.

Contractors are now all working day shifts as most of the project which was dependent on the tides is now complete.

Concrete is also being poured to construct steps up to Marine Parade and there will also be a ramp installed.

The final recurve unit, which takes the wave power away from the railway line, has arrived and been installed.

The concrete is being poured via a link 180metres away from the station car park.

Work has also nearly finished on the shaft for the new lift which will be installed in the station.

Dawlish railway station has never had a lift in its history so this will be a major improvement for accessible use of the station.
