SECOND home owners in Teignbridge will be paying double the normal Council Tax charge from April 1.

Unoccupied and furnished properties in Teignbridge, including those used as second homes, will pay the rate unless they qualify for an exemption.

The Government introduced some exceptions to empty homes premiums which does not remove the Council Tax charge, but protects from having any empty homes premium being applied in certain circumstances and time periods.

For second homes, the premium will be double the normal Council Tax charge.

These exceptions might also apply to any property that has an unoccupied and unfurnished premium being applied after April 1, 2025.
