A TEIGNBRIDGE primary school has been recognised for its commitment to creativity.

Teignmouth Primary School has recently been awarded the prestigious Arts Mark Silver award, which recognises a school’s ‘exceptional commitment to creativity’.

The award couldn't have come at a better time for the school given it has just opened a special art classroom for its pupils to further help children develop their artistic and creative talents.

To achieve the award, the school have been hard at work providing a range of exciting artistic opportunities to the pupils.

These have included providing drama, dance, music and art clubs; ensuring all children have learnt to confidently play three different instruments by the end of school, providing art for the local community in a range of projects, and developing opportunities for pupils to perform in public.

Teignmouth Primary School also formed a school rock band and its choir are set to perform at a national event in Birmingham.

Another important part of the Arts Mark has been the pupils work with local artists.

The Helen Foundation have funded exciting projects with artist Monica Shanta, who helped children develop a range of artistic skills.

The pupils also worked with local artist Sam Lock from Trailart on the Tree of Hope project.

‘It’s so important to nurture children’s creative and artistic talents,’ says Luke Marchant, Headteacher at Teignmouth Primary School.

‘We always want to empower children to express themselves, and we’re proud that the Artsmark Award recognises this journey’ Luke added.
