AN experiment to close Abbey Road near Bovey Tracey Primary School at the start and end of the day has been hailed a success.

Mayor, Cllr Sheila Brooke, speaking at a town council meeting this week, said the trial, which saw parents help close the road to traffic, had been positively received by residents.

Devon County Council is now going ahead with a pilot scheme to make the term-time morning and afternoon closures permanent and unmanned, in what Cllr Brooke believed was the first of its kind in Devon.
