MORE than 400 children met Santa thanks to Newton Abbot Rotarians.
For the second year running, the Rotary club has joined forces with Fermoys Garden Centre to bring the magic of the Christmas season alive.
A Santa’s Grotto was built and created for children to visit the big man himself, along with Mrs Claus and the elves.
Santa arrived at the garden centre on his own float at the beginning of December where 100 youngsters were waiting to greet him.
Mrs Claus was on hand to give out sweets and gifts with mice pies for the adults.
The float had been provided and run by the organisers of Ipplepen Carnival.
The Grotto featured a host of wildlife with badgers, deers, foxes and sheep before entering the elves area.
A spokesman for Newton Abbot Rotary Club said: ‘What truly sets this Santa’s Grotto apart was the heartwarming communication between the working elves and children who lead them to meet with Santa and Mrs Claus.
‘Children eagerly shared their wish lists with Santa who listened intently with a twinkle in his eye, before they were invited into the elf ‘present room’ to choose a gift of their own choice.
‘Through generous donations, by local businesses, and volunteer efforts, Rotary Newton Abbot in conjunction with Fermoy’s Garden Centre, ensures Santa’s Grotto remains not just a place of wonder but also a force for good, supporting local charities and initiatives that uplift those in need during the festive season.
‘It embodied the true essence of Christmas: spreading joy, fostering community spirit, and making the world a brighter place for all.’
The money raised will be distributed by Rotary Newton Abbot to needed local causes in the New Year.
