RAISING awareness of climate change were youngsters from Bishopsteignton Primary School.
Children from KS2 went on a March For Climate as they aimed to highlight the climate crisis with members of the public and encourage people to take action to prevent the worst effects of climate change from significantly impacting on their future.
Waving specially made banners and flags, the children marched from Morrisons supermarket into Teignmouth came about after spending time in class learning about the topic Extreme Earth.
They were joined by teachers, school staff and parents, showing their support for the cause.
Almost all the resources the children brought with them, including the leaflets which they handed out to the public, were handmade by the children in their own time.
A school spokesman said this ‘demonstrates their love for the topic and their desire to be climate heroes campaigning for real change’.
‘The children were inspired to take action as they learned about the causes and effects of climate change.
‘There was such passion and enthusiasm from the children.
‘They spoke eloquently and confidently to various members of the public about what they had learned and how people can do little things and make small changes to their everyday lives which would make a huge difference in the fight against climate change.’
The children said they wanted to spread the message about ‘saving the planet’.
The spokesman explained: ‘At Bishopsteignton, we hope that immersive, meaningful events like this not only enrich the children’s learning, but empower them to speak up about real issues which matter to them.
‘We also hope that this inspires other children and schools to do the same.’
