ENGINEERS working on Dawlish railway station are making good progress on the new accessible footbridge.
Just a week after the Transport Secretary Mark Harper officially opened the £80million new sea wall, the station’s lifts and footbridge are taking shape.
A spokesman for the South West Rail Resilience Programme, Network Rail’s project to protect the vulnerable coastal line, said: ‘We’ve now lifted in all the pre-cast concrete units for the new accessible footbridge at Dawlish station.
‘The deck and final pieces of the lift towers have been installed.
‘We’ll now move on to installing the lifts themselves and building a new ramp and stairs at the entrance to the station.
‘We expect the bridge to come into use towards the end of this year, making journeys easier for passengers.’
