TORBAY Hospital’s new £2.8million radiotherapy CT scanner is to be officially opened this week, funded by Torbay Hospital League of Friends.
The Newton Road hospital site is home to a new suite which bosses say will ‘transform’ cancer care across south Devon.
It will house the new state-of-the-art Radiation Therapy Computed Tomography (RT-CT) scanner, and a range of features to make patients as comfortable as possible.
The new facility also includes improved changing facilities and toilets.
This investment in the hospital’s radiotherapy service will allow the treatment team to use the images to plan radiotherapy in a faster, more efficient way.
A hospital spokesman said: ‘The new scanner has been purchased with funds generously donated by Torbay Hospital League of Friends.’
It will be officially opened on Tuesday by trust chairman Sir Richard Ibbotson.
He will be joined at the ribbon cutting ceremony by members of staff from the department, organisations involved in the project build and members of the League of Friends.
