AN conceptual art exhibition in Newton Abbot that focused on our relationship with the ocean was well attended.

‘Ocean Connections’ ran from September 21 to October 20 at the Maltings Taphouse

Marina Rees, a scientist and artist, who exhibited photos and videos and works for Natural England and the Natural History museum, said a few words to officially open the exhibition, which was curated by Mike Puleston.

‘It's been a powerful experience curating and hanging the exhibition, particularly through meeting many different artists and those who came into view the art and recording their reactions’ Mike said.

‘I had some great conversations with visitors on all aspects of the ocean, including many younger visitors with their parents’ he added.

The discussion event, which put Roman Stoic philosopher, Lucius Seneca’s enigmatic quote, 'Beyond all things is the Ocean', pride of place, saw a panel of speakers consisting of Toby Sherwin, a retired oceanographer, Keith Hiscock, of the Marine Biological Association and Jeanette Sanders from the University of Plymouth.

The event was professionally filmed by videographers Luke and Ollie which, along with other videos of the exhibition, will be available soon.

‘I must give a huge thanks to the manager of the Taphouse, Chris Cutts, and the staff for all their support’ Mike said.

‘And last but not least the Maltings building itself, for the amazing atmosphere and space that really enhanced the exhibition’ he added.
