A NEWTON Abbot road is to close so improvements can be made to an existing cycle route.
The overnight closure of Marsh Road will allow for improvements to the Newton Abbot section of the National Cycle Network Route 2.
Improvements will be made to the existing route, between Sherborne Road and The Avenue, and is anticipated to take place from April 29 until May 3 between the hours of 7pm and 6am.
It will include: new cycle route signage; new line-markings and a dropped kerb to provide a right turn for access off Kingsteignton Road; additional cycle racks, cycle route markings and tactile paving within the pedestrianised space adjacent Sherborne House; cycle symbols within green patch road markings to highlight the route along Marsh Road; removal of two car parking spaces on Marsh Road directly east of exit to Cricketfield Car Park; provision of wider bi-directional cycle route through Cricketfield Car Park, including changes to car park layout and, lastly, new signage on Marsh Road to warn of vulnerable pedestrians and no footway.
Diversion routes will be in place for the duration of the night works.
Access for residents of Elm Road will be permitted during the works whereby drivers will be escorted between Cricket Field Road and Elm Road if required.
The work to be undertaken within Cricketfield Car Park is expected from May 6 to May 17 - it will be undertaken within normal working hours and will impact the number of spaces available.
