FIREFIGHTERS from Newton Abbot are this evening, Sunday, dealing with a gas leak in a Plymouth business.
Fire Control received a call from the Ambulance Service at around 6pm asking for assistance with a fridge that was leaking gas from a retail property by the Barbican at St Peter and the Waterfront. Crews from Green Bank were mobilised alongside an officer, Environmental Protection Unit (EPU) and supporting fire engine from Newton Abbot.
Fire Control reports: ‘This is a commercial fridge that was punctured by a member of staff cleaning.
‘A member of staff inhaled some of the gas and is now in the care of the paramedics on scene.
‘Crews are at work with 2x breathing apparatus, 1x hose reel jet, 1x covering jet and 1x gas monitor.
At 18:48 they reported: ‘The EPU is now in attendance, crews are at work with 2x breathing apparatus, 1x hose reel jet, 1x covering jet and gas monitors checking for gas levels.
‘19:10 – Crews have confirmed that readings on gas monitors are dropping and are waiting for 15 minutes before taking a final reading.
'19:48 - Crews have confirmed that there are no gas readings on gas monitoring equipment. '
