NETWORK Rail is expected to reopen Dawlish sea wall to the public in a matter of days.

The exact date the two rebuilt sections of the wall will finally be linked is yet to be announced but engineers are working on the finishing touches.

Project manager Sarah Fraser says construction of the 400m of sea wall has been a 'huge challenge'.

While work is continuing on the station's accessible footbridge and lifts, when the wall itself can open, it will mean safe access to the public along the walkway.

Sections of the old stone wall have been reused to create public benches and a new ramped access will be available to and from the beach.
