THE mystery of a car badly damaged after a suspected crash and left abandoned on Dartmoor was been solved as its driver checks-in with police.

Just before midnight on Saturday, Febraury 22, Devon and Cornwall Police came across the vehicle off the B3212 near Lettaford, with the driver nowhere to be seen.

Fearing the worst, officers conducted an area search with the assistance of a dog unit and Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team.

Alas, the search was stood down when no-one was located.

‘There were concerns for the welfare of the occupants due to the rural area and the poor weather’ a spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said.

However, the driver made contact with police the following morning to confirm all occupants of the car were safe and no other vehicles had been involved.

As it turned out they were visitors staying at a hotel in the area.
