CENTRAL Devon Mel Stride has been nominated for ‘Frontbench MP of the Year’, in recognition of his contribution to UK politics.
The Pagefield Awards celebrate MPs who ‘shape our political and media landscape, champion meaningful change, hold power to account, and inform the public debate’.
Pagefield say Mr Stride has been a ‘key figure’ in holding the Government to account while his critique of the UK’s economic performance has been a ‘defining feature’ of the early days of the new Parliament.
The Shadow Chancellor’s tough critique of the government’s National Insurance rise and the Family Farms Tax has positioned him as one of the most prominent voices on the Opposition benches.
In response to his nomination, Mel Stride MP said: 'I’m honoured to be on the shortlist for Pagefield's ‘Frontbench MP of the Year’ award, and I congratulate the other MPs who have also been shortlisted.
‘While we may not always agree on every issue, I recognise the dedication and passion with which my fellow nominees serve the public.
‘I will continue to hold the government to account – especially following their anti-business Budget and the introduction of their reckless Jobs Tax.’
A total of 6 MPs have been shortlisted for this year’s award. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, March 18.
Former Prime Minister, Lord Cameron, was announced as the joint winner of last year’s ‘Frontbench MP of the Year’ award, alongside Labour’s Wes Streeting.
