VOLUNTEERS from Ashburton’s Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team were called out last night (Saturday) to search for a missing man on the moor.
At just before 9pm the team, along with the National Police Air Service helicopter, were deployed to search for a man in his 40s who was lost, possibly injured, somewhere north of Haytor.
He had been on a family dog walk late on Saturday afternoon with his sister and their children.
As darkness fell and the fog rolled in, he became separated from his group and was unable to find either them or his way back to the carpark. His sister, concerned for his safety, raised the alarm.
At around 10pm shouts were heard near the Becka Brook, halfway between Haytor and Hound Tor, and by 10.30pm the individual was located and apart from being cold and wet was found to be uninjured.
He was then returned to the road by one of the rescue team’s 4x4 vehicles.
The team’s Search Manager said: ‘We were concerned that the individual may have been injured and were very relieved to find him safe and well.
‘As ever, we are indebted to our volunteers who gave up their Saturday evening with friends and family to take part in the search.’
