DAWLISH is now ready for Christmas with the official switch on of the town’s lights.
Mayor of Dawlish Cllr Rosie Dawson performed the big switch on for this year, marking the start of a festive weekend with a two-day Christmas market.
A lantern parade started from the Manor and went around the Lawn to the Bandstand where there were performances by Torbay Brass Band and community carols from local schools and churches.
A spokesman for the town council said: ‘Thank you to everyone who came and especially our volunteer helpers who braved the cold to set up, help at the event and then take it down.
‘We may not have the Brook lights back yet but Dawlish Town Council and Dawlish Chamber of Trade and Commerce and many volunteers have helped to brighten up the town for Christmas.’
The lights along the Brook sustained damage during recent storms and will not bea bale to be replaced until next year.
The Christmas market saw a host of stalls along the Strand and festive entertainment with live music, free face painting and free balloon modelling over the weekend.
