A RESIDENT at a Kingsteignton care home has celebrated her 101st birthday.
Kathleen Burton, known to family, friends and staff at Penns Mount Care Home as Ruth, was born on June 28, 1923.
She was brought up in London and from age 16 to 20 lived through the Second World War: some of this time she was working at the Bank of England.
After marrying Jack Burton she spent the next several years as a vicar’s wife bringing up five children.
Soon after Jack took over the Parish of Ellacombe in Torquay she trained as a Montessori teacher and founded a Montessori school.
In her 80s she travelled to Senegal to work voluntarily in a school and then China.
Ruth has been a Resident at Penns Mount Care Home since 2018.
‘It is such a pleasure to care for Ruth, "Happy 101st Birthday" from Sam and all of the team’ a spokesperson for the home said.
