TEIGNMOUTH-BORN rock band Muse triumphed at the MTV Europe awards.
The band took home the best rock act title and dedicated their album to people in Ukraine and Iran at the awards event which took place in Dusseldorf in Germany.
Matt Bellamy, Chris Wolstenholme and Dominic Howard celebrated winning the award with a performance of one of their new tracks.
They fought off competition from the likes of the Foo Fighters, Liam Gallagher, Måneskin, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Killers to pick up the award, which follows the release of their album ‘Will Of The People’ earlier this year.
The award comes as the band have been quiet over the last few years.
But music critics said they ‘crushed’ the competition at the awards.
Accepting the award, Matt Bellamy gave thanks for the prize.
He told the crowd: ‘We would love to dedicate this award, in fact the whole album, to the people of Ukraine and also women in Iran who are fighting for their freedom as we celebrate tonight
‘Thanks so much to our European fans, the best fans in the world, we love you so much and have been with us for the last 20 years now.
‘We look forward to see you next year on our tour.’
Performing during the event, the band were described as using ‘plenty of pyro and choreography perfectly synced to the thumping beat of the tune, the band showed exactly what they are made of on one of the biggest stages there is’.
Winning the best rock category celebrates the success of their latest album Will of the People.
The band was formed in Teignmouth in 1994 and released their debut album in 1999.
The trio had played in various school bands at Teignmouth Community College in the 1990s before forming as Muse with Matt on lead vocals, guitar, keyboards, Chris on bass and backing vocals and Dominic on drums.
