A CARE home group with homes in Newton Abbot recently celebrated its winning of an industry award with a special Disney-themed week of fun.
Off the back of its win in the Care Home Awards 2024, the Rose Care Group Homes celebrated with a Disney week across its Newton Abbot homes.
Each home was allocated a different Disney Theme Park for their residents to enjoy.
Southlands Care Home was given the Hollywood Studios as their nominated theme park.
Southlands arranged a variety of activities for the residents throughout the week which included horse shoe throwing, cocktail tasting, star cookie making, reminiscence, quizzes, movie time and many more.
Southlands also invited an entertainer to sing to them songs from Disney movies.
As a luxury RCG care home that caters for residents with some physical disability, the activities were adapted to ensure maximum participation.
The staff joined in too, wearing fancy dress and decorating the home for this special week.
Each lunchtime the residents visited one of the Hollywood Studios restaurants and had a special meal from their menus.
Some examples of these are burger and chips from the ‘ Rodeo Roundup Barbeque’, spaghetti bolognaise from Mama Melrose Italiano Restorante, beef stroganoff from the 50’s Prime Time Café and a big favourite was the ice-cream sundaes at the Hollywood Scoop.
It is understood that great fun was had by all.
Friends and families were invited to join in with the entertainment.
Manager Carol Dyke and Deputy Manager Christina Taylor expressed their gratitude to all the staff who worked so hard to bring this wonderful event together which brought so much enjoyment to the residents.
Carol said ‘Being part of the Rose Care Group has enabled Southlands to continue to maintain the high care standards as well as putting on these big events that the residents have always enjoyed.
‘Southlands has always held excellent activities and is all about making life better for the residents and their families.
‘Southlands is now able to offer a day care facility to share this all with others in the community.’
