KNITTERS are needed to help create this year’s Dawlish Poppy Wall.
Dawlish Town Council is appealing for help again this year as the Poppy Wall makes a return to the railings on the Lawn.
Dawlish Bowling Club is supporting the initiative which is being organised by the town council.
The aim is for anyone to knit or crochet a poppy to add to the wall between November 1 and 14.
Last year, more than 800 knitted poppies adorned the fencing.
The Poppy Wall heralds the Remembrance events in the town.
Armistice Day on Friday November 11 will be marked by the Dawlish branch of the Royal British Legion and the town council with a two minute silence at the Poppy Wall.
Then on Remembrance Sunday, November 13, the council is planning a parade and wreath laying ceremony followed by a church service at St Gregory’s Church.
The council is inviting anyone to lay a wreath outside the main ceremony, between 10am and 1pm or after 4pm on Remembrance Sunday. The event will begin with the parade assembling at the Central Hall in Park Road at 2.30pm.
The parade will then move off at 2.40pm for the war memorial where the wreath laying at the Memorial Gardens will take place at 3pm. This will be followed by a church service at St Gregory’s Church.
Roads will be closed temporarily along the parade route during and after the wreath laying.
