THE first of several benches has been installed along Queen Street as the scheme nears completion.
The final phase of the controversial project will see street furniture installed along the Newton Abbot road, including benches, hanging baskets and planters.
Seven Juneberry trees will be installed in the planters by the end of the month, Teignbridge District Council said in it latest Residents Newsletter.
Five at the far western end of Queen Street and two at The Avenue junction with Queen Street
There will be a total of three public benches installed between Prospect Terrace and Fairfield Terrace, the first of which is now in place.
The last phase also includes the installation of a Zebra Crossing at the War Memorial, signage and road markings across the whole scheme area, including surrounding roads.
The scheme was supposed to include tree pits, however due to ‘unexpected underground services not shown on historic plans’, they could not be installed below the footway at the western end of Queen Street.
