SCHOOL pupils from Shaldon, with a helping hand from Cllr Tim Biddleston, chairman of Shaldon Parish Council, planted a commemorative tree in honour of Her Majesty on Saturday, September 24.

Shaldon School pupils Alex Sleeman and Lucian Mills were tasked with planting the tree near Oak Tree Grove, and by noon the tree was in place.

The tree planting was a part of the Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC), a tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee; since Queen Elizabeth II’s passing , His Majesty King Charles III wishes to continue the initiative until March next year.

It is hoped it will create a living legacy, with more than one million trees having been planted in Her Majesty’s name across the country.
